British Sign Language at Mildmay
Mildmay Primary School has a Resource Base for Deaf Children (RBDC). This specialist, enhanced provision supports children from Nursery to Year 6.
Our deaf children work alongside their hearing peers within their chronological year group classes and have access to experienced teachers of the deaf and specialist learning support assistants.
Some of our deaf pupils use BSL to communicate and therefore our, very own, Mr Looney has planned and we all teach a Primary School BSL Curriculum for all of our children. Much of our classroom learning is sign supported (as required to meet deaf needs) and all assemblies and events have BSL signing to support our deaf learners and deaf families.
Many of the adults in our school have also started to learn BSL which is either taught on site by our own staff or supported by external accredited BSL courses.
You can read more about the BSL curriculum coverage and content in our Deaf Provision pages: HERE!
